Understanding "On Hold" Listings
We recently updated Puppies.com to include On Hold listings in search results. This change is designed to provide buyers with a more complete view of a seller's history and upcoming availability, while giving sellers more control over their online presence.

For Buyers: Finding the Right Puppy
If you see a listing marked "On Hold," it means the puppy is currently spoken for, or the seller is not accepting new inquiries for that specific dog. When you click the Contact button, a message will appear to let you know the listing is currently on hold, and to present two options:
- Save to Favorites. This option enables you to save the listing to your Favorites, so you can check back on it in the future to see if the listing status has changed.
- Create a Saved Search. This option enables you to save a search for the same breed/location, which helps to check for similar dogs in the future.
To hide "On Hold" listings in a Search if you prefer to see available puppies only:
- On the search page, click to expand Advanced Search.
- Check the box labeled "Hide 'On Hold' Listings."
- Click Search to update your results.
For Sellers: Managing Your Visibility
Previously, marking a listing as "On Hold" removed it from the site entirely. Now, these listings remain visible by default to showcase your track record. While buyers can't contact you through an "On Hold" listing (simply to prevent inquiries about unavailable dogs), they can still reach out to you via your Seller Profile, which is accessible through On Hold listings.
- How to hide a specific "On Hold" listing: If you do not want a specific puppy to appear in search results while it is on hold:
- Navigate to your My Listings page.
- Go to the On Hold section.
- Click the "Hide from search results" checkbox for that listing.
- Finalizing a Sale: Once a dog has been fully sold and is no longer available, please mark the listing as Sold using the Listing Status drop-down menu as a courtesy to the community. This will remove the listing from active search results entirely.
