How do I find a puppy?

Finding your new best friend on Puppies.com is simple. Our Search page allows you to browse thousands of listings nationwide and narrow them down to the exact breed, age, and characteristics you're looking for.

Starting Your Search


  1. Enter a Breed: On the Search page, type the name of the breed you’re looking for into the Type a breed search bar. Click/tap the appropriate result in the drop-down below.
  2. Select a Location: Click the All Locations dropdown to search nationwide, or enter a specific city or state to see puppies near you.
    1. When entering a city/state, enter your location in the text field, and then click the appropriate result in the drop-down below.
  3. Choose a Type: Use the Purebred & Designer dropdown to filter for purebred dogs, designer mixes (like a Lab/Boxer), or both.
  4. Find Puppies: Click or tap the orange Find Puppies button to see your results.

Refining Your Results with Filters

Once you have your initial results, you can use our advanced Filtering tools to get specific.

  • On Desktop/Laptop: Use the Filter Results sidebar on the left side of the page.
  • On Mobile: Tap the teal Filter button at the top of the results to open the full-screen filter menu.

You can filter by:

  • Sex & Age Range: Find exactly the gender and age you prefer.
  • Price Range: Set a minimum and maximum budget for your search.
  • Physical Traits: Select specific Coat Patterns or Colors.
  • Health & Verification: Filter for ID Verified Sellers, listings with Health Certificates, or puppies with a Pedigree.
  • Availability: Check the Hide On Hold box at the bottom of the filters to skip puppies that already have deposits.

Sorting Your Results

You can change the order in which puppies appear by using the Default Sort button at the top of the grid.

  • Default: Listings are randomized and equalized so every seller gets fair visibility.
    • Best used for: quick general searches.
  • Newest Listing Date: Listings organized from newest to oldest.
    • Best used for: finding dogs which were just posted.
  • Top Dog: Listings organized from highest views to fewest views.
    • Best used for: checking out some of the most popular listings in the search.
  • Underdog: Listings organized from fewest views to highest views.
    • Best used for: finding underappreciated listings that haven't been seen by many others.
  • Most Expensive: Listings organized from most to least expensive.
    • Best used for: finding high-value dogs with unique coats/coloration or rare pedigrees.
  • Least Expensive: Listings organized from least to most expensive.
    • Best used for: finding a great deal!
  • Youngest: Listings organized from youngest to oldest.
    • Best used for: finding younger puppies or upcoming litters.
  • Oldest: Listings organized from oldest to youngest.
    • Best used for: finding an older dog which needs a great home.
  • ID Verified First: Listings organized so ID-verified users appear first.
    • Best used for: finding listings posted by an ID-verified seller.

Get Notified of New Listings


If you don’t find the perfect match today, let us do the legwork for you.

  1. Apply your preferred filters and click Save (near the results count) to add this to your Saved Searches.
  2. Ensure New listings match my saved searches is checked in your Notification Settings.
  3. We will automatically email you as soon as a new puppy is posted that matches your exact criteria.

Pro Tip: If you aren't seeing enough results, try widening your search radius or clearing specific filters (like color or coat pattern) to see more available puppies in your area.
